They Might Be Giants – Apr 18 2009

For twenty-five years, two guys from Brooklyn – John Flansburgh and John Linnell have been playing with listeners’ heads while selling 4 million
copies of thirteen albums and moving from cult figures to the
mainstream. In the process, they have spawned a whole generation of
“nerd rocker” bands and just plain geeks with songs about thermostats,
metal detectors, and President James Polk. In the late 90s, the dynamic
duo began expanding its horizons into television (13 videos for MTV),
movies, and the internet, contributing songs and the opening themes to Austin Powers: the Spy Who Shagged Me, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and the Grammy-winning song “Boss of Me” for Malcolm in the Middle. Last year, Flansburgh and Linell released their latest CD, The Else, and launched their free monthly podcast which has turned into a national underground favorite (available on iTunes and at tmbg.com). The Village Voice put it this way: “They make being defiantly uncool look and sound unbelievably cool!”
